Mediation, Arbitration & Workplace Investigation

Megan Ashbury* is a lawyer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since 2021, Megan’s practice has focused on conflict resolution in the workplace. Based on her considerable experience resolving workplace issues in both the public and private sectors, Megan began providing mediation services to the BC Human Rights’ Tribunal in 2022.

As of May 2023, the Collective Agreement Arbitration Bureau (CAAB) added Megan to the Register of Arbitrators through the established mentorship program. Arbitrators placed on the CAAB Register must be accepted by the community as impartial and neutral, with broad skill sets reflecting current community standards.

Megan brings a unique combination of union and management-side experience, experience that enables her to foster relationships between diverse parties, finding effective, practical, and durable solutions for all parties to a dispute. In her more than twenty years as legal counsel, she has earned a reputation for acting with integrity, while bringing a pragmatic and balanced approach.

Prior to establishing a mediation and arbitration practice, Megan worked on a range of labour, employment, and human rights matters, with a focus on unionized workplaces. She is also informed by her experience with workers' compensation, disability and accommodation, collective-bargaining (both union and management-side) and privacy law.

For a number of years, Megan was directly responsible for coordinating the legal services of a large labour organization; managing resources, providing guidance on complex litigation, and mentoring staff to develop capacity to achieve both individual and organizational goals.

In addition to advocacy, Megan brings to her work the hands-on experience as a supervisor, manager and employer.  She has provided labour relations advice, guided performance management, and led collective bargaining. As well, Megan’s belief in community service has led her to serve on several non-profit management boards, providing leadership and expertise.  In finding the way forward for parties, her approach is compassionate, responsive and respectful.

Megan graduated with a J.D. from the University of British Columbia in 1997 and began practicing law in British Columbia with a firm specializing in labour, employment and workers’ compensation law.  Later, she worked in-house with various labour organizations providing representation in a variety of legal settings.

Megan is a member of the CAAB Register of Arbitrators, the Law Society of British Columbia, and the Canadian Bar Association.

Megan is available to assist parties across Canada with mediation, arbitration and investigation.
